“Tour de France for Superman” – Stefana pieredze Lillē
It was the first event I applied was a little pretty town Lille in North of France. The topic of this event was distortion pedals. So it was very close connected as with music as with electronics. Despite I am not playing any instrument I would like to try what actually EESTEC spirit means!
First of all, it was quite impressive. I never hear about Lille, but this city was biggest then Riga. Actually, it is made by a lot of small towns which is very good connected by the one of the first fully automatic metro. The Lille is marvellous town with a lot of old-fashioned buildings as well as modern.
The one of the first thing we did before our academic part was started was visiting traditional French carnivals. We made some improvise costumes for each using all we have and some colours. The organizers were so kind to use their cars to go to town where this colourful party was. After this we also visited a sea (Le Mans). Of course it was too cold, but any way it was wonderful view, we even could see the part England from other side of sea.
Then the official part was started. The most impressive for me was to see this modern specifically Engineering university of Lille. Actually, they name it not university, but “Ecole” like school. We had had a little tour through all building. For example, in basement they have a place for different kind of hobby, like Dj’s or music hall for their university orchestra.
First of all, in the Monday morning, when we come to school it was officially announced that academic part was started. We have some time for official lectures and then practical work or workshop. In the lectures tutor from Lille Ecole explained us what we actually have to do this week and give some theoretical knowledge. We had our personal laboratory room. Organizers gave us all materials we were asked and encourage us to do something new.
As I said the topic was distortion pedals. We were separated into the groups. So using all materials and our personal knowledge we should made some distortion pedal, which will make some electrical noise distortion. We were working five in the morning days from Monday to Friday (day of result announcement). The hardest part was to wake up at the morning to go to school, because we were exhausted by different activities and especially parties we had every day after workshop. However, after hours of a brainstorming, planning, soldering and fixing we got our distortion pedals. On Friday the winner team was announced.
As well we had some official dinners or international where organizers sorted a different kind of traditional French food like cheese, vine, oysters and so on. In international night each one of participant presents some kind of traditional food of his country. It was interesting and delicates dishes, drinks and food you can try from the entire world.
One of the interesting and exciting moment was a Belgium bear in France it sort so many different kind that you cannot reject to try it. Also most of them had a special glace like Kasteel Rough, which is actually more like cider with cherry taste.
To conclude, I was so impressed by France and having some personal reasons I choose this country for my Erasmus. Currently I am in Lille end have a fun exploring France and learning French language and culture. As well I was invited at the middle of July to join an event in Atwerpen for weekends with my friends from LC Lille. I presented LC Riga as unofficial, but it was unforgettable to see a lot of new people, new places and try a lot of new things.
